First-starter LOVE N THE PORT headed up a winning double for the progeny of LOVE YOU at Invercargill in New Zealand on July 2.
Love N The Port saluted for prominent Oamaru trainer Phil Williamson in the EASTERN SUBURBS 2yo/older TROT, 2200m.
The gelding, sent out favourite, enjoyed a run three back in the running line before moving up to challenge for the lead 400m and go away by 1.5 lengths. Love N The Port was bred by and is rac
ed by KP Ussher and SE White, and is the first foal out of Sundon mare Ngaire Margaret to get to the races. Smart 3yo ULTIMATE STRIDE completed the double for Love You in the WINTON MITRE 10 HANDICAP, 2700m. Also trained by Williamson, Ultimate Stride was having only his second start for the season after saluting at the same track on June 20. The colt finished his 2yo season with four wins in as many starts in Australia in July-August, with victories in the group 1 Redwood Classic at Maryborough and Breeders Crown at Melton among them. Ultimate Stride’s lifetime record now stands at eight wins in 12 starts. Love You is also making a mark as a broodmare sire with LOVE YA DOOSIE NZ in Australia. Her 3yo colt KYVALLEY SENATOR had his third career win at Shepparton on July 2, while at the same meeting a 4yo son KYVALLEY CHIEF also scored.
