Another international trotter has taken up residence at Haras des Trotteurs in Cardigan, Victoria with the arrival of the beautifully bred mare Alegria Dream, who is owned by Mr Mathieu Millet, the principal of ambitious French trotting stud, Haras Des Hunter Valley.
Alegria Dream is a daughter of the group winning Italian mare Adri di Jesolo, (T1.13,8a € 184,995) who won several times as a 2YO in the United States, winning the Acorn and Reynolds Memorial, before becoming one of the top Italian 3YO fillies of her year when repatriated to Italy.
A daughter of outstanding broodmares sire Donerail, Adri di Jesolo won the Gran Premio Italia, ran second in the Italian Oaks Del Trotto, and placed third in three other Italian classic races, during a period when Italian trotting was one of the strongest in the world, producing two of the world’s greatest stallions Viking Kronos and Varenne.
Indeed, at the time, the once-famous Lotteria at Naples was ranked alongside, the Prix d’Amerique and the Elitloppet, as the third leg of Europe’s unofficial triple crown, and was actually won in 2008, by Gambling Bi, who is out of a sister to the Adri de Jesolo’s dam.
Even now, the Italian breeding industry is still very strong, constantly pumping out international stars such as Zacon Gio and Twister Bi, winners of two runnings of the last three International Trot’s at Yonkers.
The Andover Hall mare is in foal Quaker Jet, who stands at Haras des Hunter Valley, and was bred to Southern Hemisphere time in France last year and Mr Millet, hopes to continue what has now become a tradition and race and breed Alegria Dream and her progeny in Australia.
