When trainer Kate Hargreaves scrolled through the 2019 Australasian Premier Trotting Sale catalogue lot 14 caught the eye.
A colt from the third crop of French-bred stallion Used To Me and out of strong producing New Zealand-bred mare My Dreamweaver, which had left four winners.
The breeding of the Yabby Dam Farms offering ticked all the boxes for Hargreaves.
"Its all about crosses. He had some impressive crosses through his pedigree."
And then when she looked at videos of the youngster Hargreaves was sold.
"I liked the way he walked and moved.
"He looked the part."
Then it was just a matter of ensuring Hargreaves and Alex Ashwood made the winning bid.
While they could not be at the sale in person, their stable representative completed the deal - securing the colt for $11,000.
Hargreaves and Ashwood were not the only "winners" on the day.
The proceeds of the sale were given to Terang Harness Raing Club by Yabby Dam Farms owner Pat Driscoll as part of a fundraising effort for the development of a new on-course stable complex.
Almost two years down the track and Hargreaves could hardly be happier with the Used To Me youngster.
DontCare has earned more than twice his purchase price and signalled a bright future with two wins and a fast-finishing second in the group 1 BREEDERS CROWN SERIES 2YO TROTTING COLTS and GELDINGS FINAL a meeting - a run which naturally delighted connections.
Hargreaves could not be more excited about the gelding's future.
"He has so much upside. He's going to be a better three-year-old."
Hargreaves said DontCare had done everything right from the day he arrived at her stable.
"He hasn't put a foot wrong.
"He's a natural trotter."
She said as his name suggested he was "very layback".
"He's very intelligent and has beautiful manners."
Hargreaves described DontCare as a "dead-ringer" for his sire Used To Me.
She said she had watched racing videos of Used To Me and he had the same action.
With the Breeders Crown behind him, DontCare will now contest the Vicbred Super Series before going to the paddock for a break.
DontCare was the only lot offered by Yabby Dam Farms at the 2019 APTS.
It will be a much story at the inaugural Nutrien Equine yarling sale at Oaklands Junction on April 10 and 11 next year.
Yabby Dam Farms is offering 31 lots, including five by Used To Me.
